Maria McAuliffe was one of eight daughters of Denis McAuliffe (1831-1916), police constable and later sergeant, and his wife Johanna Ryan (1838-1910) who were married in Launceston on 9 Sep 1857. Maria was a soprano in the Tasmanian Exhibition Choir in 1891-92, as was her sister Frances. Her brother Denis was also in the Choir.
