Charles Arndell Maddox was born on 12 Jul 1870, a son of James Maddox (1853-1897) and his wife Mary Ann McAndrew (c.1848-1887). He started at the Launceston High School in 1885 and was in partnership with his father as a mining and commission agent in 1897. He seems to have left Launceston early in the 20th century. See The Examiner 27 May 2005, p.34.
