William James Hogg was born on 7 Apr 1871, the second of eight children of the highly respected school teacher Thomas Hogg (1845-1890) and Mary Ann Huxtable (1842-1895) who were married at Evandale on 25 Feb 1869. William was born on 7 Apr 1871 at 'Belmont', Evandale. He was christened at St Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Evandale on 25 Mar 1874. The family moved to Launceston about 1873 where Thomas established the Collegiate Institute, which trained young men in commercial studies. Thomas died suddenly on 13 Jul 1890 aged 45.
William was the honorary secretary of the Tamar Rowing Club in 1893. He moved to Sydney later and at the age of 55 married Millicent (Dolly) Curry in 1925. They had one daughter Rose and a grandson Keith. William died aged 83 in Chatswood, NSW, on 21 Apr 1953. William's younger brother Thomas and his future sister-in-law Ethel Barnard are also pictured in the Family Album.
