Leila Gaunt was born in Launceston on 26 Apr 1887, the second youngest of 14 children of Edward Gaunt (1837-1904) and his wife Emily Ransom (1845-1921). Leila left Tasmania in 1914 to nurse at the Melbourne Hospital. She died in 1975.
