Mrs Joanna Helen Flexman was born at Longford on 3 Oct 1843, the third of five children born to James Charles Groom (1808-1875) and his wife Elizabeth Parker (1805-1879). She married Thomas Henry Flexman, manager of the Bank of Tasmania, on 27 Jul 1872 at St John's Church, Launceston. Thomas died on 6 Jan 1886 so Joanna was a widow at the time this portrait was taken for the Tasmanian Exhibition. Joanna died on 7 Jun 1908. Her sister Elizabeth Grace Evans is also pictured in the Family Album.
