William Henry Dunning was born on 7 May 1872, the fifth of eight children born to John Dunning (1839-1894), of the 'Golden Fleece', Brisbane Street, Launceston, and his wife Susannah Sophia Luttrell (1844-1896). Five of his brothers and sisters also appear in the Album. William was an architect and went to South Africa, where he married Kate Helen Gardner on 19 Jun 1897 at St George's Cathedral, Cape Town.
Later he went to New Zealand, where he died aged 60 on 6 Mar 1933 in Dunedin. Kate died aged 79 in 1946.
