Gertrude Elizabeth Doolan was born in Launceston on 20 May 1868, the fourth child of Thomas Joseph Doolan and his wife Jane Monaghan (died Oct 1920). Gertrude was believed to have stayed at home as housekeeper to her mother and brothers following the death of her father in Dec 1885. She lived out her life at 'Brittania House', which was formerly the Brittania Wine Vaults, with her two brothers Gervase and Arthur. The building was later to become the funeral parlour of the Doolan family. Gertrude was buried at the Carr Villa Cemetery on 7 Jun 1938 in Section A4 No. 190.
