Kate Butler is dressed in her nurses' uniform. She commenced training at the Launceston General Hospital on 1 Nov 1890 and was a probationer at the time of the Tasmanian Exhibition in 1891-92. Kate achieved certificates with credit on 16 Dec 1892 and in Aug 1893. She resigned on 1 Sep 1893. In Oct 1891 Nurse Butler sang a song at Dr Pardey's farewell presentation as Surgeon Superintendent at the General Hospital.
This is possibly Catherine Butler, the sister of John Thomas Butler who is also pictured in the Family Album. Catherine died in June 1901 and her funeral left the residence of her brother in Wellington Road, Launceston. She was buried at the Roman Catholic Cemetery in Connaught Crescent on 28 Jun 1901.
